NBA styles of play

NBA

There are so many great things going on in the NBA this season. First would the western playoff race. Everyone says how great all the teams are how competitive they are as well. One thing no one is talking about is the way the teams are playing how great they are doing it. Let’s take the Suns, Warriors, and Nuggets play the run and gun style. Easy way to explain it is they try to out score their opponents. They don’t mind giving up 110 points because they will score 125. That style has work very will for the Suns, finishing with top records in the west the last four seasons. Also with the Warriors knocking the #1 seed Mavericks out of the playoffs last season.
Then you have the triangle offensive of the Lakers. This style shows off the skills of the big men. It runs threw the center and power forwards on the team. With the emigrants of Andrew Bynum and adding all-star and Olympic center Pau Gasol; the Lakers have the perfect fits to run the system with perfection. Also having the one of the greatest players ever in Kobe Bryant doesn’t hurt either.

Finally is the half court game of the Spurs. The Spurs play a smash mouth hard noise defense, and play a half court style of offense. They don’t like to run with the other teams and play the stylish kind of basketball. They love to win ugly. Winning by 30 or just winning by 1 it doesn’t matter. They make you play a slow down style and with make you run that the whole game. This has brought them a ton of success, by winning championship almost at a pace of every other year.
So when you hear everyone talk about how great and competitive the conference is, think of how they play and not just how great the teams are.

Mets get better now, but Twins looking long term.

After going threw the winter meetings with no trade from the Redsox or Yankees. The talks seemed to fade. The New York Mets jumped into the conversation two weeks ago. Well it turns out coming in late is better than lading the race.

The Twins send two time Cy-young winner Johan Santana to the Mets for four top Mets prospects. For Johan the Twins will get the 2,3,4, and 7 prospects in the mets farm system. Carlos Gomez is the most known of the four prospects that the twins got. Gomez is a speedster with great potential. He has a glove like Torii and an arm like Valdy. I see him being a Jose Reyes at the plate and a Grady Sizemore on the field. Deolis Guerra is the youngest guy on this list, but don't let that fool you. Hes got electric stuff and arm, and is still learning everyday only being 18 years old. Peter Gamons from ESPN said "he's got great stuff and will be a big time pitcher is this league." Philip Humber is a tall strong pitcher drafted out of University of Rice. He's got very good stuff and has a build like Beckett. He looks to start in the Twins Rotation this spring and season. Kevin Mulvey is not as highly noted as many of the mets high prospect pitchers, but he is very good. He had a 3.20 ERA in double this past season and gave up only 1 hit in 5 innings in his only triple-A start last season. The future is looking good for the Twins, but giving up Johan was not easy.
